Susan W. Furr

Ms. Furr handles a wide array of workplace disputes involving complex wage and hour issues, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation allegations, leave issues, and non-competition disputes, among others. She is adept at finding the right solutions including counseling and settlement negotiations at mediation. Ms. Furr has practical experience handling hard-fought litigation in state and federal courts. She also represents clients in EEOC administrative proceedings.

In addition to her employment litigation experience, Ms. Furr frequently litigates disputes involving commercial contracts. Her extensive courtroom experience allows her to anticipate how judges or juries will perceive a situation and to adjust strategies accordingly.

Ms. Furr is the practice coordinator of the Phelps Dunbar law firm’s Baton Rouge employment law group and a member of the firm's Policy and Planning Committee. She is a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association - Labor and Employment Law Committee, and Federal Bar Association. She was admitted to practice law in Louisiana in 1989. She is admitted in the U.S. District Court, Middle, Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit; and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ms. Furr is recognized in leading peer review publications, including The Best Lawyers in America in Employment Law - Management (2015-2024), Labor Law - Management (2013-2024), Litigation - Labor and Employment (2016-2024), and was named as Lawyer of the Year in Litigation - Labor and Employment (2021) and Labor Law - Management (2022). When she’s not working, Ms. Furr enjoys pickleball, reading, attending LSU sporting events, boating, traveling, and hiking with her family, friends, and dogs. She gives back by serving on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club and serving on the Advisory Committee of Warrick Dunn Charities.
