BIOGRAPHY

Ms. Loos has been affiliated with Perry Dampf Dispute Solutions since 2005. She has mediated hundreds of cases. Ms. Loos’ natural ability to connect with people enables her to achieve settlements in the vast majority of her mediations. She has handled a variety of disputes including insurance, hurricane, mass torts, toxic torts, products liability, premises liability, medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injuries, wrongful death, automobile liability, property damage, and workers’ compensation claims. Ms. Loos has also worked extensively on many complex, multi-party disputes.

Ms. Loos has had an active litigation practice for over 40 years. Ms. Loos founded Katherine M. Loos, LLC in 2011. From 1983 to 2010, she was a partner in a mid-size Lafayette defense firm. Ms. Loos has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in a broad range of cases. She has extensive first chair jury trial and appellate experience in both state and federal courts.

Ms. Loos serves as a court appointed neutral/mediator in the Hurricane Laura and Delta Claims for the 14th Judicial District Court, Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles, Louisiana and the Hurricane Ida Claims in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. Ms. Loos was also appointed by United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier to serve as the Associate Documentation Reviewer under the Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damages Settlement Agreement. Ms. Loos serves as a disciplinary hearing officer for several school boards in Louisiana. She is a certified Civil Mediator by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Ms. Loos is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell (highest possible rating). She has always been active in multiple civic and charitable organizations as well as her church. She has served in many positions of leadership with those groups. She serves on the Advisory Council of LSU’s College of Humanities & Social Sciences (formerly known as the College of Arts and Sciences).

Ms. Loos is licensed to practice law in Louisiana (1982) and Texas (1995). Her bar admissions include the U.S. District Court, Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana; U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit and all courts of the State of Texas. She is a member of the Louisiana State and Lafayette Parish Bar Associations; the State Bar of Texas; and Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Ms. Loos is a longtime member of the American Inns of Court of Acadiana and serves on its executive committee (president-elect 2024). She is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Lafayette Bar Association.

Ms. Loos was born and raised in Baton Rouge and has lived in Lafayette for over 40 years. She is the proud mother of two young women, Mary Katherine and Grace.
